Organise an in-house workshop using FAUC®

Dealing with complexity and uncertainty is the number one challenge of teams, organisations and (urban) places.

Today’s increasingly complex and uncertain world has a huge impact on our social and working lives. Complementary to traditional techniques, individuals, organisations and societies therefore require additional approaches and practical frameworks. FAUC® is a complexity-based framework leveraging five capacities: Entrepreneurial, Alert, Adaptive, Resilient and Creative. Each capacity is essential for teams, organisations and urban places:

• to deal with complexity and uncertainty
• to be fit-for-action
• to act effectively

A workshop for your team

An interactive hands-on and minds-on workshop designed to help teams, organisations and (urban) places to act more effectively. By working together, participants develop the essential capacities for their team, organisation or community. The workshop can be performed during a 4-8 hour activity with teams varying from 4 to 30 people simultaneously.

Teams are stimulated to have a conversation about their team, organisation or community. Using canvasses, cards and Duplo bricks participants will be stimulated to:

• Understand social complexity and uncertainty

• Diagnose your social systems by using a complexity lens

• Find strengths and weaknesses in your social system

• Understand and develop the capacities to act effectively

• Define actions together to further develop and grow

• Apply principles to navigate in a complex and uncertain world

• Learn to apply a new framework, approaches and tools.

The workshop is interactive and uses structured dialogue and the wisdom of people involved. Offering a chance to take a step back and make observations and interpretations, and define interventions to act effectively.

The workshop will be facilitated by Rik Berbé is an experienced practitioner, trainer and facilitator. He is co-founder of GloComNet. You will benefit from the knowledge and experience from the original founders and designers of the FAUC® framework.

A date for a workshop will be plannend based on your preferences and the availability of participants.

Workshop place can be in your organisation or an external location (costs excluded). Please contact us for workshops outside Europe.

"The FAUC toolkit offers an excellent vehicle for participatory design and engagement of stakeholders grappling with complex issues and dependencies. The tactile learning inherent in the kit helps make visible the assumptions that underpin our perceptions of complex phenomena, and fosters dialogue as to prioritization and action. The session on the FAUC model was an engaging exercise led by an experienced facilitator – Rik Berbé."

- Robert Luke PH.D, Vice President, research and innovation, OCAD university

"As a facilitator and strategist, I've found the FAUC® model provides a unique, but completely intuitive, framework for sparking insights from a group or team about their specific business or community environment. It's a great assessment tool for kicking off an initiative with diverse stakeholders or, at the implementation planning stage, for bringing teams together to plan for the future."

– Jeannette Hanna, Chief Strategist, Trajectory

"I recently participated in the 'Acting effectively under uncertainty and complexity' session led by Rik Berbé. I found the FAUC® model employed in the session was an insightful and accessible tool to instigate thoughtful conversations about the opportunities, risks, and interdependencies that affect any organization or industry. It provides a foundation for stakeholders with different opinions and perspectives to collaborate and assess their collective strengths, weaknesses, and the impact to them of the unique ecosystem in which they operate."

- David (City marketeer and planner)
